The Gambling Commission in the UK decided to hold a questionnaire regarding gambling in the UK. According to the Commission’s Chairman, Peter Dean, these types of questionnaires are held as a form of monitoring the gambling industry in the public. These types of investigations are key components to knowing how the people are reacting to gambling and what types of new technologies are being preferred to gamble. The results of the questionnaire showed that around 8% of all adults in the UK had at some time and in some form taken part in gambling activities within the last month. The most popular form of gambling was shown to be the National Lottery, estimating about 5% of the people that responded to the questionnaire participating in this form of gambling.
On the poll of most popular gambling activities, the lottery was the most popular for remote gambling and in second place is Online Poker. Online Poker seemed to be the preference of about 5% of those who use computer, laptop, or handheld device. These forms of gambling showed more use than using cell phones and digital/interactive television.
All in all, the consensus was that technology is taking the upper hand in gambling and online gambling is increasing in its popularity.
